Training : Program Design

I have two younger children (12 and 15) who would like to work out with me. Are they too young to start weight training?

It's great that your kids are interested in lifting! And as far as simply learning about strength training, no age is too young. As far as actually doing weight training, at your kids' ages, slow, deliberate movements with resistances nowhere near their absolute potential are recommended. This means they should be using a resistance level where they could complete another six to eight reps on any one of their sets, but they stop short. The focus should be on learning the proper techniques of the exercises in preparation for handling a greater weight as their bodies mature.
Also, watch your children's body language as they perform exercises. Are their limbs trembling as they attempt to lift a weight? If so, this is a sign that they're using too heavy of a resistance. You should lower this weight to something they can handle more easily.
