My biggest dieting problem is that I get hungry at night. But I can't take appetite suppressants because they keep me awake. What can I do to stave off my nighttime cravings?
First of all, you should try following Bill Phillips' recommendation to eat six small, evenly spaced meals throughout the day. At least three of these should be whole-food meals and the others could be Myoplex meal-replacement shakes. Your whole-food meals should consist of a balance of protein and low-glycemic index carbohydrates. You should notice fewer cravings and a more controlled appetite when you follow this nutritional plan.

If after six meals you're still hungry at night, don't reach for appetite suppressants—most are stimulants and probably the last thing you need before going to bed! But there is one weight management tool that's not a stimulant: hydroxy citric acid (HCA), a fruit acid derivative. And HCA may have an added benefit of reducing carbohydrate conversion to bodyfat—even better news for dieters! HCA is available on the Neo Elite Nutrition Web site. In your case, you may want to supplement with the last dose of HCA after 6 p.m.

A high-quality whey protein isolate product such as EAS' Precision Protein may also have some appetite suppressing effects without keeping you up at night. This effect may be due to its stimulation of CCK (cholecystokinin), which is an appetite-suppressing hormone. Try making this product one of your meals, taking one to two scoops later in the evening.
